Life moves so quickly, and I know how important it is stop and just be present with those to whom choose to be closest. My fire comes from capturing those moments of pure joy, facilitating a brief pause to allow families to reconnect, and offering a tangible piece of personal art to look back on in times to come. It is a pleasure to have met some incredible people with fascinating stories through my photography, and an honour to have developed deep friendships with these beautiful humans.
Mama Lioness of two fierce cubs, wife of a man with the most glorious mane, and daughter of the queen of the pride, I have a strong sense of tribe running through my veins. A Fen Girl at heart, you’ll normally find me marvelling at fungi, picking blackberries, and counting the galaxies. I believe beauty is not just found in the face, but in the colours of nature, the shapes of architecture, and the textures of this beautiful rock that we call home.
I spend the majority of my life fuelled by black coffee, Bowie, and Bill Murray movies, and have seen 4am more times than I did when I had newborns. But when I am invited to be a part of someone’s life journey, from engagement, to wedding, through pregnancy into a growing family, I know deep within my soul that there’s nowhere I’d rather be than behind my camera.
After taking commissions for several years I established Lauren Irving Photography in 2010. This has taken me on many great adventures to many stunning destinations both locally and internationally, working with poets, acclaimed artists, entertainers, BSL interpreters, creative collectives, and many other companies ranging from local businesses to global firms.
From poetry slams to charity sport events, ballet productions to local community workshops, I genuinely love what I do and put my heart and soul into capturing the right image.
Perhaps, by Vera Brittain
(Dedicated to her fiance Roland Aubrey Leighton, who was killed at the age of 20 by a sniper in 1915, four months after she had accepted his marriage proposal)
Perhaps some day the sun will shine again,
And I shall see that still the skies are blue,
And feel once more I do not live in vain,
Although bereft of You.
Perhaps the golden meadows at my feet
Will make the sunny hours of spring seem gay,
And I shall find the white May-blossoms sweet,
Though You have passed away.
Perhaps the summer woods will shimmer bright,
And crimson roses once again be fair,
And autumn harvest fields a rich delight,
Although You are not there.
Perhaps some day I shall not shrink in pain
To see the passing of the dying year,
And listen to Christmas songs again,
Although You cannot hear.
But though kind Time may many joys renew,
There is one greatest joy I shall not know
Again, because my heart for loss of You
Was broken, long ago.
When it comes to the most important day of you and your partner’s life, we know that the tiny details are what make the day personal to you, and are what build the unique story of your journey together.
Maybe you’ve spent long evenings creating a stunning button bouquet, or you’ve become more than a little acquainted with the haberdashery department and a hot glue gun. Perhaps the groomsmen have all co-ordinated their best trainers to go with their morning suits. Or maybe you’ve found the perfect pair of heels to wear with the ivory lace gown that has been passed through the generations in your family.
Although those staged shots with all the different bridal party configurations have their place, it is those ‘caught off-guard’ moments and close-up shots of the details that will bring the pictures alive. When you’re looking through the album with your children and grandchildren, reliving the day that was filled with family, happiness, laughter, and love, all the Pinterest boards, bleeding fingers, and hours of shoe-shopping will feel completely and utterly worth it.
Welcome to my new blog. Every day is different in my world and so I’m aiming to keep you all up to date with my adventures through this blog.
